Barcelona, Day 3

We were ready for a more leisurely day, so we enjoyed a later start, after the wonderful breakfast provided by the hotel.  It rained overnight and until mid-morning. The streets were busier, as it was a Saturday, so we walked along the Rambla, with a pedestrian walkway and more affordable shops. We enjoyed browsing in a great kitchen shop, and they also have children’s stores that caught my eye.

We stopped for lunch about 2:00 at Rambla 92, choosing a table on their covered patio. We had the best pan con tomate yet! It was toasted well and drizzled with good olive oil and sprinkled with coarse salt. They also had good $5 Cava.  We shared a salad with fried goat cheese, mango, walnuts, and frisée, as well as an Ibérico burger.  We will definitely return there after the next cruise.

We rested for a while in the afternoon, did a bit more walking, and Charlie found a well-rated French restaurant on Open Table for an 8:00 (late to us, early for the locals!) dinner, 190 Pau Claris.  We had wonderful roasted artichokes with black garlic sauce to start, then the special of the evening, a whole hake (fish) covered in salt and roasted. They brought it to the table for a photo before preparing it for us in the kitchen.

Artichokes

The fish came with roasted potatoes and asparagus, as well as three versions of creamed cauliflower (all three equally horrible, very “gluey” and flavorless). We loved the fish, potatoes, and asparagus!

Here’s one additional photo from our “light” supper after our tapas tour on Friday.

We needed a salad, and we added calamari and potatoes brava with an amazing (and plentiful) aioli. Delicious!

Today (Sunday), we will have another Embarkation Day, boarding the Oasis of the Seas for a cruise of the western Mediterranean.  We have stops in Mallorca, France, and Italy before returning to Barcelona next Sunday.
