Tenerife

This morning we were up in time to watch the ship approach and dock at Tenerife.  The views as the captain turned the ship to back in were amazing. This is the largest of the Canary Islands, with Spain’s tallest peak, a dormant volcano, Mt. Teide.  This photo shows an adjacent town, which we found charming.

Here’s our current view from our balcony.

And here’s one from the top deck at the back of the ship. Notice the white contemporary auditorium designed by Santiago Calatrava.

We had planned originally to stay on the ship today, and the port isn’t convenient for walking into the city, so we’re staying aboard another day.  Tomorrow we have a walking and shopping excursion booked in Las Palmas, so that will get us out and about.

There are ferries galore from Tenerife to the other Canaries and even to mainland Spain (39 hours), so we’ve been entertained from our balcony.  Here’s one of the smaller ones.

Maybe tomorrow’s post will be more interesting for our readers, but rest assured we aren’t bored!
