Monday, Day 4

The sun is rising very early now, so we’ve begun closing our curtains at bedtime so we can sleep a bit later.  We went to the gym, which was much less busy than on the first day.  To continue our apparent routine, we met Al and Carol for Morning Trivia and enjoyed that, though we didn’t win. We really need a Brit and an Aussie on our team, as the questions always include some only they’d know.

Charlie showed me the small casino on Deck 2, where the waves look much fiercer than on Deck 10.

Then we went to check out the photos taken on the first night aboard and on Gala Night. There are a couple of good ones, so I’m sure we’ll buy some after the next Gala Night.

Lunch was pretty good, starting with cheese grits-stuffed jalapenos.  I thought that was a clever pairing!

Delicious!

We each had a fairly pedestrian salad, but we needed some greenery.  Charlie had roast lamb with potatoes and Thai mint sauce, which he said was flavorful but not very tender.  I opted for a Rueben sandwich, with mixed pickles and fries, and the sandwich was quite bland.  Oh, well, can’t win ‘em all.

Afterwards, we lined up for an immigration check of our passports, and line stretched at least 30 yards. Luckily, it went fairly quickly.

By then, (given another noon time change), it was almost time for the needlecrafters’ gathering.  I first spotted a new woman knitting alone, and she was thrilled to find another knitter (Holly). We went to look for the others and found the two from yesterday (Karen and Nan), then Helga joined us.  We had a good time stitching and chatting.  Nan’s from France, Helga’s German, but lives in North Carolina, Karen’s from Australia, and Holly’s from Pittsburgh.

Charlie and I checked out the library (no pun intended), and it is really amazing. If my iPad wasn’t loaded with books I’d have checked some out.

At dinner, Charlie really liked the Korean fried cauliflower with wilted spinach and chili garlic sauce.

Then we both had the spinach and pear salad with rosemary vinaigrette.

His entree won the day—lamb loin en croûte, served with pesto baked fennel and fondant potatoes.  Beautiful AND delicious.

My tournedoes were also very good with lyonnaise potatoes.

After dinner we went to the Royal Theatre for an excellent musical show featuring (mostly) familiar pieces and ending with a fun Beatles medley.

And now, to bed!

  1. Wow, that library puts RC’s to shame! They know their demographic. I bet I would have liked that cauliflower dish too!
