Wednesday, Day 4, Molde, Norway

We enjoyed dinner with the Kimbros at Chops Grille last night.  Our server Teresa asked where we were from, and when we told her, she immediately asked if we’d brought her a Whataburger and some spicy ketchup!  One of the bartenders had asked us the same thing last week, so I asked if she knew Al at the pool bar.  She whipped out her phone and showed us a photo of the two of them with their children!  She quipped, “He’s my roommate!” That’s the second couple of married crew members we know on this ship.

A little after 1:00 a.m. last night, our neighbors came back to their cabin, apparently with several others, and they were all talking very loudly out on their balcony.  It woke us up, and there was no way to ignore the noise.  I called Security and they came and spoke to them, then called us to say the guests would leave and they’d be quiet.  Thank goodness!

We docked at Molde early this morning, but it was already very sunny, as sunrise was at 3:40 a.m.  Here are some photos from our balcony.

Rachel and Rob left the ship to hike, and Rachel sent these photos from her vantage point.

Molde is known as the City of Roses, and they were blooming everywhere!  Rachel also spotted lots of peonies.

Charlie and I left the ship a bit later to explore the area.  These young women wearing their traditional bunads greeted us as we left the port area.

I was struck by this new-to-me tree!  Note the large nest near the top.  Google Lens identified it as a monkey puzzle tree.

We walked up MANY stairs to see a church, but a funeral was underway, so no visitors were allowed.

We also walked up stairs to the viewpoint you can see here, but our ship blocked a lot of the view. I took this photo from our balcony.

We returned to the ship in time to get lunch at Fish and Ships on the pool deck. We really lucked out with the cool sunny weather today!  Tomorrow we’ll visit the tiny village of Olden (pop. 666).  There is apparently ONE restaurant, so the woman giving the port talk warned of long waits. We’ll probably have lunch on the ship. That’s it for today!
