First Sea Day

After our coffee and screen time this morning, we took a walk on the pool deck, walking through the Solarium, the indoor pool area, and the outdoor pool area. After seven laps. we met our exercise goals.

Mid-morning, we went down to the theater for the Top Tier event (and the free champagne).  The captain is from Sweden and is a real comedian. Some captains are really good at entertaining the crowd and others are rather wooden, bless their hearts. Here's the usual chart I like to capture, showing who's on board right now. We're now (and forever more) in the Diamond Plus category. It takes 700 cruise points for Pinnacle, and we'll just be at 195 after this long cruise.

After that, Charlie wanted to go to the casino for the first time, so I went into the nearby Diamond Lounge to do Duolingo.  We had lunch scheduled at Izumi, so he came back in time for that.

Izumi did not disappoint! Charlie started with some miso soup that he loved. Then we both tried salads. Mine was the ginger-tofu salad, and it was excellent.

Charlie had a seaweed salad that he also enjoyed.

Next, we both had the champagne lobster roll -- truly our favorite of all time!

Then I had the crispy Philly roll, which includes salmon, avocado, and cream cheese, flash-fried in panko. Also delish!

Charlie's choice was the Ryu Futomaki roll, which included tempura sashimi, cream cheese, and wakame. Each piece was huge!

Then our very charming server brought us MORE champagne lobster roll as his treat! By that point, we were already full, but we managed to eat a bite or two before he offered to let us take it to-go.  Needless to say, we couldn't manage dessert, though the mochi looked delicious.

After an afternoon spent mostly in our room, we got dressed for dinner and went to the Suites Lounge. It's at the very back of the ship, and the ship's movement feels definitely stronger there. I'm glad our room is midship!

Dinner was back in Coastal Kitchen, where our server Lisa recommended the Caprese salad and the roasted barramundi with rice, caramelized carrots, and bok choy. Both were delicious!

Charlie opted for her other suggestion, a seafood velouté and the roasted lamb loin with a yogurt and cucumber sauce.  He really liked both dishes. On a cruise this long, the menus will repeat, so he wants to have the lamb again!

It was too cold for a post-dinner stroll around the deck, alas. We set our clocks one hour earlier, so we're now three hours behind Texas Time. We stayed up extra "late" for us, hoping not to wake at 4:00, and Charlie went to the casino for a bit.

I'm finishing this post at 5:30 Wednesday morning -- another Sea Day!  More tomorrow!

  2. I'm surprised he stayed out of the casino so long! Glad y'all are still enjoying Izumi.
