Sea Day 5 + Sushi and Sake Tasting
Today (Saturday) has been a "busy" day for us. It was pouring rain when we set out to walk, so we walked around and around inside Decks 3, 4, and 5 to get our exercise minutes. We finished up by practicing our gymnastics together.
Shortly after 9:00, we lined up in one of the main dining rooms with the other continuing cruisers to hand over our passports. Royal Caribbean will keep them until we've left our last stop in French Polynesia on the next cruise.
Then we headed to the Internet desk to claim our two free days of wifi for being Diamond+ members. Now we won't have to switch back and forth among our various devices for a bit. Definitely a First World problem! From there, we went to the Loyalty Ambassador, because I noticed this morning that the packaging for our glass block memento was addressed to Charlie and "Kristina X." I had previously noticed that my app had Kristina at the top instead of my name, so thought we'd better ask about it. Luckily, all is well, but Vernon (the Loyalty guy) said that the computer systems in Miami were having all sorts of issues. Rest assured, Charlie hasn't been cruising anywhere with Kristina.
At 11:00, we went to Izumi for the Sushi and Sake Tasting event. That did not disappoint! Here's the menu, which you may have to enlarge to read.
And here are the dishes we sampled:

Yellowtail Jalapeño Carpaccio |

Crispy Shrimp Roll and Futomaki |

Champange Lobster Roll and Creamy Lobster Tempura |

Teppan Beef Fried Rice |

Strawberry and Chocolate Mochi |
We enjoyed it all! The creamy lobster tempura was SO GOOD, but it's not on the menu at this Izumi. We will look for it on future ships. The sakes were also fun to sample, but the She's a Geisha cocktail was my favorite -- sake with cranberry juice, lime cordial, and muddled blueberries.
Hawaii is getting closer! Tomorrow the captain promises us a scenic view of the Na Pali Coast of the island of Kauai, en route to Honolulu. Our room is on the correct side of the ship for viewing, so we’ll be able to take in the views of the sea cliffs and waterfalls. Here’s our location as of Saturday morning:
I’ll write about our dinner tomorrow.
