Seattle, Day 1
We were just about to cock in Seattle when we awoke yesterday morning. Our ship pulled in next to another Holland America ship (which ours dwarfed).
About 10:00, we left the ship and waited in the taxi line in cold, windy ("feels like 49") weather. My denim jacket was insufficient! Thankfully, once we were in downtown Seattle, the wind wasn't as noticeable. We walked around the downtown area, reacquainting ourselves with places we've been before. Alas, the big Macy's had closed.
For brunch, we went to Shaker and Spear, a place we've enjoyed on previous trips to Seattle.
They seemed woefully understaffed, so everything took a while, but we weren't in a hurry. I had a French chive omelet stuffed with mushrooms, and it came with fries (odd, but good!). Charlie had a huge burger that included a fried egg, pimiento cheese, and bacon. I forgot to photograph mine immediately, so here it is midway through!
From the restaurant, we walked over the hill to the Pike Place Market. It was teeming with people on a sunny Sunday, so we didn't stay long. I wanted to get some flowers for our cabin, and the choices were amazing.
Here's the bouquet I chose:
I had packed a couple of plastic vases that pack flat, then open when filled with water, and so far, they're working just fine. Of course, the ship is stationary! We're spending Monday in Seattle, too.
Charlie took this photo of the ship as we returned yesterday, so you can see where our cabin is located. We're immediately beneath the capital S in Anthem of the Seas.
Here was our late afternoon view, after the Holland America ship had departed.
After Happy Hour in the Suites Lounge (where we eavesdropped shamelessly on a group of Aussies who kept dissing the Yanks), we went to Coastal Kitchen for dinner. Charlie had a beef pappardelle that he enjoyed, and I had shrimp and scallop crusted pollack, which sounded great, but was actually very bland, alas.
But the desserts did not disappoint! Charlie had a chocolate mousse-filled piece with ice cream on the side, and I had apple cobbler topped with ice cream.
Charlie took this photo of the full moon rising from the restaurant window.
When we finished dinner, we took a stroll around the deck and he took this shot.
We plan to stay on the ship today (Monday), as we've been to Seattle numerous times. Thanks for reading!
What gorgeous views!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd PS for some reason I thought you couldn't bring flowers onto the boat. Noted!!
