Third Sea Day before New Zealand

The Good Life at Sea continues, as we follow the same routines most sea days.  After coffee and screens, we walk for 30 minutes and get credited for 3.24 miles, which is pretty speedy for a couple of septuagenarians. My Apple Watch keeps expressing surprise at the sudden ramp-up in my activity level.  It really needs a setting that accounts for moving cruising ships.

A little before 10:00, I head to one of the conference rooms on Deck 13, right at the back of the ship.  It has big windows, so a wonderful view, though many of the crafters choose to sit with their backs to it, claiming it makes them feel queasy.  One crafter’s husband took this photo of us yesterday.  I’m at the back by the window.  New people found us today, after seeing the photo on Facebook.

Then I meet Charlie for lunch, usually at the Solarium Bistro, as they have a good salad bar. We try to have a light lunch since our dinners are usually caloric. Still, I’m glad I packed stretch pants and adjustable-waist skirts! We are definitely consuming more carbs, not to mention alcohol.

Afternoons are spent napping (Charlie) and knitting/Netflixing (me).  We usually take another shorter walk around deck 5 to stretch our legs before deciding it’s Happy Hour. Yes, it’s a rough life.

Charlie recently captured two good photos from our balcony.

Interesting light/cloud combo

Sunset last night

Dinner is always at Coastal Kitchen, where the staff know us well.  Even though the menus repeat every seven days, we have managed to find good options.  Here’s Charlie’s lamb dish from last night.

Lamb chops with eggplant, potatoes, and mint jelly

After dinner, we stroll around Deck 14 (where the pools and the Solarium are) before heading back to our cabin. We’ve seen all the shows, so haven’t gone to those on this cruise. Sometimes Charlie goes to the casino, but he has earned multiple cruise offers, so hasn’t gone as often lately.

Here’s our location as of 4:30 p.m. on the 24th, as we head towards Tauranga.

Overnight, we’ll cross the International Date Line, vaulting us over Saturday the 25th entirely, so it will be Sunday the 26th when we wake up.  Will this ruin my unbroken streaks in Wordle and Duolingo?  It had better not! And Charlie is wondering if he’ll miss a whole day of college football! Stay tuned!

  1. Remember that it’s still Saturday where college football is played, LOL! Love the photo of the crafters!

  2. That mint jelly is crazy. I thought it was Jell-O! The conference room you guys craft in looks really nice! It's so great that the group is so big.
