Sydney, Day 3

Last night we had another great meal at Harbourfront Seafood, just a short walk down the boardwalk from our hotel. We had a front-row table, with a great view and excellent people-watching.

To start, Charlie had half a dozen oysters, and we shared chargrilled pita with taramasalata and salmon roe.

My main course was grilled mulloway (a white fish) with blistered tomatoes, capers, and olives. I ate every bite!

Charlie chose spaghettini with tiger prawns, spinach, and lemon butter, and we shared a Greek salad with the best feta we’ve ever had.

For dessert, we shared a chocolate and mandarin mousse with chocolate crumb and salted espresso cream, which was as divine as it sounds.  Once again, we began consuming it before remembering to photograph it.  Sorry!

We didn’t finish our bottle of wine, so we asked them to close it so we could take it with us.  The server said they weren’t licensed for that, but came back later to say, ‘if we see you leaving.” So. . . .

Early this morning Charlie caught this view of the sunrise behind the opera house, just as a Carnival cruise ship was pulling into port.

This morning (Sunday for us), we again enjoyed breakfast in the hotel.  Today I ordered the buttermilk pancakes with local honey and ricotta.  So good!

Charlie was perhaps more virtuous, ordering the avocado toast with poached eggs and summer green salad.

About 9:30 we headed out to shop, walking about 30 minutes to a big shopping area.  It has been hard to adjust to walking on the left, after 70 years of “ keeping right.” And there are so many other tourists who are still keeping right that we do have to dodge quite a bit. We didn’t go into this store, but if we’d had a grandchild along, we would have!

We found some souvenirs, then headed to Neptune’s Grotto for lunch.  With that name, I was expecting a seafood restaurant, but it proved to be Italian!  You can see Neptune behind me here.

And here’s a look at the other half of the small restaurant.

We started with fried olives stuffed with mortadella and Parmesan — so yummy! Then I had butternut squash tortellini with hazelnuts, while Charlie enjoyed tagliatelle with beef and pork ragu.

They knew we’d just had birthdays, so they brought us this delicious chocolate flan with dark caramel. So, so good!

Believe it or not, we do have dinner plans tonight, back at Pony Dining, the place with the wood-fired grill.  Tomorrow morning we have an Uber booked to take us to the airport for our 11:50 flight.  I probably won’t blog tomorrow, but will write about the trip at some point. Send good travel vibes!
