Day 9: Getting Closer

We’ve now sailed over 3300 miles, and this afternoon we moved into Greenwich Mean Time, so we’re five hours ahead of Texas (surely the reference point for everything, right?). The weather is cooler, in the lower 60s, and the wind is still blowing. At 12:30 today, this was our view of the pool deck from Coastal Kitchen:

There were two people in the hot tub, but no sunbathers anywhere. I’m wearing a wool sweater over a long-sleeved t-shirt.

Last night we enjoyed dinner at Sabor.  Along with their very good margaritas and guacamole, we had the bacon-wrapped chicken skewers and fried calamari, which we did remember to photograph.  Our entrees were the grouper with a tasty salsa served with fried plantains and mashed potatoes (to Americanize it?). Charlie had jalapeno-garlic tiger shrimp and calabacitas (zucchini).

This morning we slept past 7:00, unheard of for us, probably thanks to losing an hour yesterday. I had to scurry to get all my puzzles and Duolingo done so I could shower and get to the crafting group at 10:00. Your comments about the woman yesterday who left her husband at the port were enjoyed. I can’t see myself saying, “Buh-bye!” to Charlie in that situation, can you?  I learned of a great yarn store in Barcelona with a wine bar adjacent to it, so the pair of us should be happy for a while. There was no drama today, but I sat by a woman who’s going to return home on the Queen Mary 2, so we chatted about that experience. It’s her first time on a Cunard ship.

Charlie continues to rack up casino points and is doing well with his self-imposed budget. He likes going in the mornings best, as it’s much less crowded.

There are three more sea days before we get to Cadiz, Spain (Saturday). We’re looking forward to a walking foodie tour there.  That’s it for now!

  1. I agree there is a 0% chance you would leave dad behind in that scenario!! But he would never hear the end of it. Thank goodness Rob and I got passports at the same time, so our renewals are together too.

    1. We all have different passport expiration dates. 😬 But I’m going to put reminders on the calendar - I still think that story is wild!

  2. Sydney would totally still want to swim!
