Day 2, Kavala, Greece

Here is a map from our TV showing where we’re cruising, in the Aegean Sea.  Kavala is near the top of the map.

Yesterday afternoon we enjoyed sitting out on our balcony for a long time, sipping the champagne that was in an ice bucket when we arrived, waiting for sailaway. We finally went to a lounge for drinks by a big window to watch, as we were delayed leaving. About 6:45 we went to Luminae for dinner. We started with an amuse-bouche of pea purée topped with crab.

Then Charlie had a spicy crab cake for his appetizer, and I had a grilled apple salad.

Charlie ordered the duck , and I chose the penne arrabiata.

Not pictured — sorry! — the chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert.  Both the food and the service were again excellent.

This morning when we arrived in Kavala, it was raining, with a feels-like temperature of 47. Both of us are fighting off colds, and since our excursion was canceled, we decided not to take a tender into the city. It’s chilly just walking around on the ship, and we’re wearing wool sweaters!  April in northern Greece is not warm, apparently!

This morning we met our butler, but we have no idea what to ask him for. He was appalled that Charlie had fetched our early morning coffee himself, telling us to fill out a breakfast menu and he’d bring it every day.  But we don’t want to get waked up if we happen to sleep a bit later.  Definitely a first world problem!

We toured the ship a little more this morning, stopping to admire this artwork.

For lunch, we decided to use the refund from our cancelled excursion to get lunch at Sushi on 5, the not very creatively named restaurant.  We were the first to arrive, and only two other parties arrived while we were there.  The hot green tea was helpful for our stuffy noses!

Alas, we forgot to photograph our starters, dumplings and wontons, but they were both very good. Then we each had different noodle bowls and enjoyed those.

Then Charlie had the shrimp tempura roll, and I had the Sunset roll, with salmon, mango, and avocado.  Delicious and beautiful, but I couldn’t finish mine.

For dessert, Charlie had gingerbread topped with wasabi ice cream!  Yes, wasabi. I chose the yuzu sorbet and enjoyed it.

Tomorrow we’ll dock in Thessaloniki, and as I mentioned, it will be Easter Sunday. We are planning to walk around and see what’s available there, though we don’t have an excursion.  Maybe I’ll have more than just food pics tomorrow!

  1. I'm sorry about your stuffy noses! That is no fun on vacation. The food does look pretty epic! And LOL about your butler. Surely you could just call him for coffee when you wake up?
