Sea Day Report
Yesterday’s winds meant the ship’s movements were quite noticeable! On the suites deck, water was sloshing a foot over the sides of the hot tub! The 16th floor deck, where we’d intended to take our morning walk, was closed due to the high winds until mid-morning. We spent a lot of the morning on lounge chairs on the topmost suites deck, with views shown below. The second one is for Emily and Sydney to see the mini-golf course.
We had a wonderful lunch — with exceptional people-watching — in Hooked, a specialty restaurant that overlooks the Solarium. I chose the coconut shrimp platter, which included slaw and fries, and enjoyed every bite. Charlie was in his element, ordering a dozen oysters, the calamari, and a lobster roll. We both ordered the coconut cream pie, and he enjoyed it, but stopped after a few bites. Okay, but nothing special.
We spent much of the afternoon in the suite, then enjoyed Happy Hour back on the suites deck. Dinner was at Coastal Kitchen, and it didn’t disappoint. My appetizer, braised beef with gnocchi over parsnip purée, was outstanding!
My entree was veal cannelloni, and it was also very good. Charlie had a green curry soup with shrimp, then cod served over steamed spinach.
Dessert was interesting, kind of an odd combination of flan, raspberry sorbet, and ginger cookies. If any readers are wondering why I’m writing so much about the food—(A) we are foodies, and (B) my adoring fan(s) have asked for food descriptions!
After dinner, we saw Voices, an amazing a capella performance by about two dozen singers and dancers. It was very high energy and entertaining, especially when they sang music from our era! We sat by a retired military couple from Fort Hood, very close to Waco. We quickly headed from the theater to the ice rink for another amazing show. The skaters, some of whom were Olympians, were startlingly talented, performing lots of difficult lifts and jumps, plus at least a dozen costume changes. We were impressed!
Today we don’t dock at St. Thomas until around noon, ship’s time. It’s a short time to go ashore, and the excursion we’d booked got cancelled, so we may just stay on the ship.
That food looks epic! Love CK! Would love to see photos of the port at St. Thomas if you have a good view from the ship. I'm also impressed that you went to see two shows!
