Sea Day

Sorry for no post yesterday — it was a Sea Day, and we mostly lazed around. Here are some pics from our first evening on the ship.  As we were leaving Los Angeles Monday evening, we passed a LONG jetty, at the end of which was this lighthouse.

And the sunset that night was just as we entered Chops Grille for dinner.

I failed to take pics of our meal, but you’ve all seen salads, filets, and baked potatoes.  Here’s the 2025 door decor Charlie created:

Yesterday morning we dutifully went to the gym in lieu of trying to walk outside in 40-degree, windy weather. Gotta burn SOME calories to offset our meals.  We also spent a little time in the Diamond Lounge, but it’s small and was quite full of talkative people.  We had better luck on the lounge on the top deck.  Charlie also had some fun in the casino.  I finished a book and started another, and my socks are coming along nicely.

We had lunch at Izumi, with a nice two-top by the window. Alas, we were so excited about each course that we both forgot to take photos. We shared dumplings and the shrimp and veggie tempura to start, then a couple of rolls involving lobster and king crab — so good and so beautiful, too. Then we had bowls of beef (Charlie) and chicken (me) with veggies and either noodles or rice. Do we get points for skipping dessert?

We did better at dinner at Jamie’s Italian.  We started with bruschetta and the garlic buns. The bruschetta would have benefited from marinated tomatoes, but the garlic buns were a winner.

Then we had salads — a Caesar for Charlie and a really good green side salad for me.

For our entrees, Charlie chose the night’s special, a lobster and mixed seafood plate that he enjoyed. I had the “sticky short rib,” with creamy Parmesan mash, lemon kale, pickled onion, and horseradish. SO GOOD.

Needless to say, we aren’t lacking in good food on this ship. We’re now docked just off Catalina Island, and tenders are taking people over to the island. The forecast looks ominous, though, so we are probably going to stay on board today. Charlie has promised me a tower of onion rings as consolation.

  1. Oh no! I'm sorry you won't get to walk around Catalina. It does sound like y'all are having some great meals! That short rib looks epic!
