The Rest of the Story

When I wrote early yesterday morning, we were headed to the airport to check our bags and get ready for our 10:00 a.m. flight to Houston.  We managed to find the Terminal E shuttle outside the hotel, and we arrived at that terminal about 5:20 a.m.  Since they'd rebooked us as a continuation of our flight from Heathrow, we didn't have boarding passes, so we went to the United desk. Thankfully, a seasoned staff member was working the desk, as she said she had to "go into the old system" to figure out how to give us boarding passes. We left the bags with her, and she told us we'd be leaving from Terminal D, on the same plane (but with different seats).

We debated whether to go on to Terminal D (where there is no United Club) or to head to Terminal E's United Club, where we could have breakfast and wait in comfort before heading over to Terminal D.  THANKFULLY, we elected the latter option.  When we checked into the club, the woman at the desk offered to look up our gate information.  She typed and typed, looking confused, then told us that nearly all of the passengers on our original Heathrow-IAH flight had chosen other ways to their destination, leaving only about 20 of us scheduled for the 10:00 flight to Houston.  Given that, they were going to BUS us all to Houston -- a four-hour drive.  Can you imagine??

She was able not only to book us on the 7:00 a.m. flight, but even seated us in First Class!  Thank goodness we'd gotten to the airport super early, so we could make that flight. It left from the gate next to the United Club, so we even had time for a quick breakfast before it boarded.   We were profuse with our thanks to her!

The 7:00 flight went smoothly, and we landed in Houston a few minutes after 8:00. It took almost an hour before our bags arrived, but we were in an Uber about six minutes later and home at 9:50 a.m.

I do wonder how the passengers who DID show up for that 10:00 flight reacted about the bus trip . . . .

That's it for a while! We don't have any travel firmed up until our October transpacific cruise from Vancouver to Sydney.  Thanks for reading -- and especially for commenting!
