Dining at the Athens Capital Hotel
After much-needed showers and naps following our long walking tour yesterday, we had dinner in the hotel’s rooftop restaurant, Mappemonde (Map of the World). Our meal was outstanding!

We started with the Green Salad “Twenty,” described as a variety of 20 salad leaves and herbs, baby vegetables, chestnuts, hazelnuts, truffle, amaranth chips and dressing with aged Asyrtiko vinegar from Santorini.” It was SO good, and it included several greens we’d never seen before, plus some edible flowers. The truffle added a wonderful flavor.

Charlie always chooses bouillabaisse if it’s offered. This version didn’t disappoint, with grouper, scallops, mussels, clams, saffron, lemon, fennel and fresh baked baguette with rouille sauce.
Their dessert menu was too good to skip! Charlie chose the Black Forest: bitter chocolate mousse, cherry, Kirsch liqueur, with added chocolate sauce.
Sunset happened before our entrees arrived, so Charlie went out to the pool terrace to capture it.
This morning I managed to get a few photos of the breakfast spread that comes with our room. I was intrigued by the frame of honeycomb we could cut ourselves.

Wow that honey dessert is beautiful!! What an amazing meal

ReplyDeleteDolmades always make me smile. I can take them or leave them flavor-wise, but I remember learning to make them from my Arabic teacher at Governor's School in Memphis. She was Iraqi, if I recall correctly, and an excellent teacher.
ReplyDeleteWow. That food looks amazing! And, I’ve never seen a honey station like that, but I bet it was tasty!
ReplyDeleteI really need to read your posts after lunch... now I'm hungry!
